Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information 80s-kid.com collects when you visit, why, and the choices you have. The short version: there are no accounts, no forms and no advertising trackers. Google Analytics runs only if you agree to it.

1. Who we are

80s-kid.com is a blog dedicated to discussing growing up in the 80s in the UK

2. What we collect and why

Website analytics (only with your consent)

If you click Accept on the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, how people arrive (for example from a search engine or another website), roughly where they are (country and city, worked out from the IP address), what kind of device and browser they use, and how they interact with pages, such as scrolling and clicking links to quizzes.

We use this only to see which content is useful and to improve the site. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, and we have not enabled advertising features or Google signals.

Our lawful basis is your consent. If you click Reject, or make no choice, Google Analytics is not loaded at all.

Your cookie choice

To remember whether you accepted or rejected analytics, your choice is saved in your own browser’s local storage (an entry called bq-consent). It is not a cookie, and it is not sent to us. It stays until you change your choice or clear your browser’s site data.

Security and delivery logs

Like almost every website, the site is delivered through Cloudflare (which protects it and makes it load faster) and stored with a web hosting provider. To deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, these services automatically process technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request. This is kept in short-term server and security logs.

Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in keeping the site secure and working.

If you email us

If you contact us, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you write. Emails sent to our 80s-kid.com address pass through Cloudflare’s Email Routing service, which forwards them to our inbox without storing their content. We use your message only to reply to you. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in answering messages.

We do not have user accounts, comments, newsletters or payment forms, and we do not sell personal data.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files that websites store in your browser. This site sets no cookies of its own. The table below lists everything that may be stored.

Strictly necessary items do not need consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). Analytics cookies do, which is why they are off until you accept.

4. Changing your cookie choice

You can change your mind at any time using the cookie button at the bottom of every page. If you switch from accept to reject, we remove the Google Analytics cookies from your browser.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

5. Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it:

Google and Cloudflare may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

6. How long we keep data

  • Google Analytics data: detailed, visit-level data is kept for 14 months and then deleted automatically. Overall totals, such as monthly page views, may stay in our reports after that, but they cannot identify anyone.
  • Server and security logs: kept by Cloudflare and our host for a short period, usually days to weeks, for security purposes.
  • Emails: kept only as long as needed to deal with your message, and deleted when no longer needed.

7. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • ask us to correct or delete it
  • object to or ask us to restrict how we use it
  • ask for your data in a portable format, where that applies
  • withdraw your consent at any time. This does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.

We usually cannot identify you from analytics data, because we never see IP addresses or names. If you want to use any of these rights, contact us and we will help as far as we can.

If you are unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

80s-kid.com links to quizzes, shops, courses and other sites that we do not control. They have their own privacy policies and may set their own cookies when you visit them. Some links to shops may be affiliate links. If you buy something after clicking one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you, and the retailer may use a cookie to record that you came from this site.

9. Children

This site is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles data, for example by adding a contact form, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top.
